Great Zam-Babwe SafariThe Great Zam-Babwe safari combines Victoria Falls with three of southern Africa’s most scenic, remote, and wildlife-rich Parks - Hwange and Mana Pools National Parks in Zimbabwe, and the vast Kafue National Park in Zambia. It showcases the exceptional variety and sense of privacy that are hallmarks of the southern African safari experience.
All accommodation is in small and exclusive luxury tented camps featuring spacious and elegantly furnished rooms, with private en-suite bathroom facilities (full plumbing); with the exception of one leg (a boat and vehicle transfer from Mana Pools to Lusaka), all transers are by light charter aircraft. The safari operates twice weekly departures from June through November, with no minimum group size. ** Please click on the links in the itinerary to learn more about each camp. Days 1, 2 & 3: Hwange National Park (Little Makalolo Camp)
With over 100 recorded species, Hwange has one of the highest concentrations of mammalian diversity of any National Park on earth - a result of Hwange's wide range of habitat types. Little Makalolo takes full advantage of its prime location within the Park, offering day and night game-drives, as well as walking safaris, to maximise wildlife-viewing opportunities.
The camp consists of six stylish and spacious tented rooms, each with private, en-suite bathroom facilities. In keeping with the camp's small, intimate atmosphere, the main area comprises a dining room, bar, and sitting room area, as well as a plunge pool for cooling off over teh midday period. A log-pile hide overlooking the waterhole in front of camp affords guests an "up-close-and-personal" game viewing experience. Days 4, 5 & 6: Mana Pools National Park (Ruckomechi Camp)
Mana Pools is one of Africa's most scenically beautiful wildlife areas, and Ruckomechi Camp enjoys an idyllic location on the banks of the Zambezi River, overlooking the imposing Great African Rift Valley. The floodplains and woodlands that comprise the "The Valley" host an abundance of wildlife and bird species, and Ruckomechi offers a wide range of activities by which to explore the Park's highlights, including day and night game drives, walking, boating, and canoeing safaris, as well as catch-and-release fishing.
Ruckomechi Camp comprises ten spacious en-suite tented units, all of which enjoy fabulous views of the Zambezi River and the escarpment beyond. Common areas include a central dining room, bar, library, and living room area. At strategic points along the riverbank, guests can find seclusion at the swimming pool, a private "bath-with-a-view", or the sundowner and star gazing deck. Days 7, 8 & 9: Kafue National Park (Busanga Bush Camp)
At 8 600 sq. miles, Kafue National Park is one of the largest protected expanses in Africa. The Busanga
Shumba Camp lies hidden in an island thicket, surrounded by floodplains. This intimate camp features just six comfortable tents, each with private bathroom facilities. The main area, comprising dining area, bar, living area, and swimming pool is located under a large canopy canvas and leafy sycamore fig tree, and enjoys panoramic views across the Busanga Plains and the dramatic sunrises that are such a notable feature of this area. Day 10: Victoria Falls (Toka Leya Camp)
After an early morning drive and breakfast, you will be collected and transferred by shared charter flight to Livingstone Airport, then by vehicle to Toka Leya Camp. Located on the banks of the Zambezi River, in the secluded Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park, Toka Leya is close enough to Victoria Falls to be a convenient base for exploring one of the world's great natural wonders, but remote enough to escape the boat and helicopter traffic that characterise the immediate surrounds of the Falls. In addition to taking guests on a guided tour of Victoria Falls, Toka Leya also offers game drives in the Mosi-oa-Tunya Park, boat cruises on the Zambezi River, and the opportunity to visit a local village for some insight into rural African culture.
Toka Leya Camp consists of 12 climate-controlled rooms on elevated wooden decks, each with private en-suite bathroom facilities (including inside and outside showers). The expansive main area includes bar and dining areas, a pizza oven, infinity pool, and spa area.
