Mammals, Turtles and Flowers Spring to Life in South Africa

South Africa boasts some of the most diverse and unique vegetation on earth - most notably the Fynbos floral kingdom, which is found exclusively in the western Cape. In the Spring, the usually subdued Fynbos and other plant species burst into a vivid explosion of color. Experience this phenomenon with a floral pilgrimage to Bushman's Kloof, located at the foothills of the Cederberg Mountains, just 150 miles from Cape Town.

The turtle nesting season has begun on the KwaZulu Natal coast! Each spring and summer, hundreds of Loggerhead and Leatherback turtles (weighing up to 1,658 pounds) complete their breeding cycle and emerge from the Indian Ocean to lay their eggs, often on the same sandy beaches where they hatched. Guests staying at Rocktail Beach Lodge are able to interact with researchers and guides patrolling the beach each night to search for and sometimes tag nesting turtles - an experience that often inspires guests to "adopt" their very own turtle to support conservation efforts.
