Classic Africa

East Africa

The safari areas in East Africa are all within a few degrees of the equator, and most are at relatively high altitude (4,000' or higher). The result is that there is relatively little temperature variation throughout the year, and the climate in most safari destinations is very pleasant. Seasonality is primarily driven by rainfall, rates, and the movement of the Great Migration.

Broadly speaking, the safari year can be roughly divided into four seasons, with alternating dry and rainy seasons. While East African safari destinations receive higher annual rainfall than those in southern Africa, it is also a year-round safari destination, with some caution required in April and May.
