US Lifts Rwanda Travel Advisory following Marburg Containment

The United States has officially lifted its Level 3 Travel Health Notice for Rwanda, following the successful containment of the Marburg virus outbreak. The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) played a key role, deploying over 30 public health experts to support Rwanda's response. Their efforts included strengthening laboratory networks, surveillance systems, and community engagement. With no new cases reported for 42 days, the outbreak was officially declared over on December 12, 2024. This marked a significant step toward restoring confidence in travel to the region.

Kenya Plans Underwater Shipwreck Museum in Kilifi

In an exciting cultural development, the National Museums of Kenya is set to establish an underwater museum at Ras Ngomeni in Kilifi County. Its collection will feature historic shipwrecks along Kenya's Indian Ocean coast, with a special focus on a 16th-century Portuguese shipwreck—the oldest known in the country. The museum's innovative design will include both above-water exhibits and underwater tunnels, offering visitors a unique opportunity to view submerged relics. Additionally, it will double as a research hub for marine life, including fish, turtles, and dolphins that thrive in the area.
