Best of Namibia Flying SafariThis 8 night / 9 day safari showcases four of Namibia's most unique and awe-inspiring highlights. The Namib is the oldest desert on earth, and certainly one of the most picturesque, boasting a diverse array of habitat types and supporting a surprising volume of wildlife. From the giant red dunes of Sossusvlei to the eerie Skeleton Coast, the rugged mountains of Damaraland, and the abundant wildlife of Etosha National Park, the Best of Namibia Flying Safari is a comprehensive exploration of one of Africa's most scenically spectacular and diverse safari destinations. Guests fly between destinations to maximize efficiency and to provide dramatic aerial views of Namibia's vast and varied landscape. Days 1 & 2: Sossusvlei (Kwessi Dunes Lodge)You will be met on arrival at Windhoek International Airport by your pilot and take to the skies for your flight to Kwessi Dunes in the NamibRand Nature Reserve. The NamibRand is a vast, half-million acre private Sanctuary adjoining the Namib-Naukluft National Park featuring a Mars-like topography of giant red dunes, golden gravel plains, and craggy black mountains. Accommodation is at Kwessi Dunes, a luxury tented camp with 12 elegant (and air-conditioned!) canvas and thatch chalets and a common area that includes a library, bar, swimming pool, and several seating and dining areas. During your stay at Kwessi Dunes, you will enjoy a day-trip to the iconic Sossusvlei and Deadvlei regions within the Namib-Naukluft Park, as well as scenic drives, nature walks, quad-biking, and star-gazing in the private Namib-Naukluft Reserve. Optional extra activities include hot air ballooning and spa treatments.
Days 3 & 4: Hoanib Valley Camp, DamaralandA dramatic morning flight takes guests across the deep-red dunes of the Namib Desert and on to the infamous Skeleton Coast, flying over eerie shipwrecks and beautiful, pristine bays. After a seafood lunch on the beach and a brief tour of the historic town of Swakopmund, continue north and cross the mountains of Damaraland to Hoanib Valley Camp. Set in an ancient riverbed, each of the camp's six luxury tented rooms boasts a preivate verandah with scenic views of the Hoanib River Valley.
While at Hoanib Valley Camp your focus will be morning and afternoon game-drives to search for Damaraland's famous desert wildlife, including giraffe, elephant, lion, and rhino. The open landscape also makes the perfect setting for nature walks, and you will have the opportunity to spend an unforgettable afternoon with the local Himba and Herero people.
Days 5 & 6: Skeleton Coast (Shipwreck Lodge)
Today you will enjoy one of the most spectacular drives in southern Africa as you embark on a full day excursion down the ephemeral Hoanib River, past giant clay castles, and across towering white dunes to reach the Skeleton Coast. The next two nights are spent at Shipwreck Lodge, overlooking the stark beauty and majesty of one of the most desolate stretches of coastline on earth.
